Zuberi
::I will never give it [UP]::
The sands stirred. A clump of grass waved, but no wind had come to blow on it. For a while everything went still, but then the sands and shadows came alive to form a spotted creature. It slunk forward to the river, and dipped its massive head to touch the surface of the water. The apple of his throat bobbed up and down as he swallowed the precious life source. Thirst quenched, the creature crawled under the shade of one of the meager trees the river could support.
The creature was a leopard, and his name was Zuberi. He was strength; he was power; he was courage. He was king. Even as he rested, lazily flicking his long tail, his eyes did not close all the way and always they were scanning the land before him. Not even a desert mouse could have surprised him. As he gazed at the land all around him, Zu remembered his old home.
It too had been a large Savannah next to a river, but it had not been next to a desert. However, no one left the pride unless they were starting a new life somewhere else, so no one had ever returned to tell them of what laid beyond. Zu had traveled across only Savannah on his way here, but now that he had come upon desert, the big cat decided not to go any further. This was an oasis, the last watering hole before the desert. There would be many animals to eat here, and many animals would be active at night, when the leopard usually hunted. Here he could start a pride of his own, one that would flourish and spread. He would turn it into the greatest pride of leopards the world had ever seen. It would be larger and more powerful than the one he had left. It had potential, but no one would take it to its full height. Zuberi could take his future pride to new heights.
A roar sounded in the distance, and Zu’s orbs narrowed into slits. Yes, he would become a great leader, but one thing would stand in his way: the black-marked lion. The current dictator would be overthrown by the other, making the younger one a hero. Zuberi would let that happen, he would stand with the other cats and bow his head along with them. But the young lion would slip up after that, he would follow in the paw-steps of his predecessor. Then Zuberi would be there to protect the weak from him. He would fight the prophecy lion and he would win. He would be Zuberi, noble king and hero to the creature of the plains and the Savannahs, the deserts and the coastlines. He would become more powerful than any other cat in the known world.
